THOMAS VINSON
The imperfections, as far as they are visible, are not mistakes on my part, but correspond purely to my intention.
Rather than regarding himself as a concrete artist, however, German/French artist Thomas Vinson identifies himself far more with process art, where action takes priority over results. He neither plans nor prepares any drafts for his objects, focusing on combining haptic, sensibility and intimacy. They develop from his emotions or arise from the materials available to him, so that the results are purely coincidental or may even be rejected.
Mostly working with medium to small scale objects, arranging them either as solitaire or in clusters, Vinson uses materials taken from nature or from the construction industry, such as pieces of wood, chipboard and MDF (medium density fibreboard) and corrugated cardboard. Vinson’s works testify to his high precision and fineness of line. Nevertheless, he is more interested in leaving traces of the development process that are only apparent upon a closer look.
In 2013, works of Thomas Vinson were shown for the first time at Galerie Wenger.
