JENS TRIMPIN

*1946, Mannheim, DE

My sculptures are ‘work in progress’ in various stages and therefore not yet finished.

Sculptor Jens Trimpin, lives and works in Mannheim, Germany. His stone sculptures, often marble or granite, are neither made with a machine nor with a preliminary drawing, but are exclusively sculpted or hammered with classical sculpting tools. The works are based on basic geometric shapes such as cuboids, cubes and steles. On closer inspection, however, it is noticeable that the edges are not straight but slightly concave. By refracting the right angle and using inclinations from the horizontal or vertical, we are able to see at least three surfaces of the work from different points of view at once. This asymmetry gives the works, reinforced by the mica of the material, an independent rhythm and dynamic — especially and paradoxically when we stop and look.
In 2014 Jens Trimpin’s works were shown for the first time at the Galerie Wenger.
