HANSJÖRG GLATTFELDER
Thinking the concrete art.
Hans Jörg Glattfelder is one of the representatives of Swiss art in the constructive direction. In his work he studies basic, geometric-mathematical rules in order to find, among other things, answers to the question of the representability of space on the surface. In his “non-euclidean metaphors,” as he titled one of his series of works, the paintings seem to float above the wall. They are two-dimensional representations of apparently curved spaces that contradict the traditional notion of space as a cube. The curved spatial structures are in fact not curved; they are painted on a Euclidean flat polygon. The illusion of curvature is additionally reinforced by the play of colour. We are invited to compare the deceptive perception of these unconventional grid pictures with reality.
In 2012, works by Glattfelder were shown for the first time at the Galerie Wenger.
