Maremma – the slow, physical search for nature, light, shadow…

Czech artist Jan Jedlička, who lives in Switzerland, deals in his work with the classical theme of landscape. In his search for ways to depict the forces emanating from nature, he makes use of both painting and photography. He finds visual inspiration for this mainly in the Maremma, the unique coastal landscape in southern Tuscany.
In his square, wide-angle black-and-white photographs, he follows the time traces of the tourists and the forces of nature outside the high season, always moving away from any natural idyll. In his “Orizzonti” Jedlička also traces the origins of the forces of nature: He collects earth and rocks in the Maremma and the surrounding area, which he grinds by hand into pigment in his studio and then sediments it on a canvas coated with Japanese paper. He only gently indicates horizon lines for orientation.
In 2015 works by Jan Jedlička were exhibited for the first time at the Galerie Wenger.
