Horizontality, as in my paintings, is an indication of how we want to see the world and create order – we stand up as verticals and see the environment as horizontal. It creates balance.

Working in a tradition of non-objective reduction, Swedish artist Lars Strandh is dealing, for the last two decades, with the same principles of form, color, surface and process when creating his artworks. Strandh prefers to work mostly with same formats, using the natural unbleached stretched linen of the canvas as the frame for his artwork. Innumerable horizontal thin brushstrokes, which at first glance appear monochrome, lead to multicolored and multilayered artworks. On the basis of the calm and repetitive painting process, Strandh’s artwork can be understood as statements and research of time, traces and existence. The artist is primarily concerned about the colors and the experience of colors, appearing differently depending on location and light incidence.
Additionally to the colorful canvases are new sculptures made out of marble and granite. In his objects, Strandh continues to research and examine the concept of time and traces.
In 2015 works of Lars Strandh have been shown at the gallery for the first time.
